Introduction to Steel

  • 23 Steps

About

Steel is a vital material used across industries such as construction, infrastructure, energy, manufacturing, and transport. It plays a key role in modern economies and offers diverse career opportunities in hands-on trades, design and engineering, and business and operations management. Its supply chain is made up of a broad network of businesses and occupations, from raw material extraction and steel manufacturing to fabrication, installation, and post-processing. Key roles include machine operators, engineers, steel detailers, welders, warehouse supervisors, and logistics coordinators. This introductory course provides an overview of how steel is made and used, the structure of the supply chain, Australian quality standards, and the training and career pathways available in the industry. It’s designed for learners with little or no prior experience in steel, particularly those exploring vocational, technical, or trade-based employment options.
