A new pathway is coming soon to support women looking to build meaningful careers in the steel industry.
Launch into Work: Women in Steel is a four-week pre-employment program designed to equip women with the skills, confidence and industry knowledge needed to step into entry-level roles across steel manufacturing, construction and distribution.
Delivered by Steel Chicks in partnership with Apprenticeship Careers Australia (ACA) and the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR), the program creates a practical pathway into an industry that continues to offer rewarding, long-term career opportunities.
Building skills for success
Women in Steel combines practical learning with real industry exposure, giving participants the opportunity to explore careers while developing the skills employers are looking for.
Throughout the program, participants will benefit from:
Hands-on practical training
Workplace readiness and employability skills
Site visits to steel businesses
Industry-recognised microcredentials, including a White Card
Professional development workshops
Career preparation and mentoring
Strategies for building confidence, resilience and effective communication in male-dominated workplaces
By the end of the program, participants will have a stronger understanding of the steel industry, greater confidence in the workplace, and practical skills to help them transition into employment.
Supporting employers to build their future workforce
Women in Steel doesn't just support participants—it also helps employers connect with motivated, job-ready candidates. Employers who partner with the program gain access to:
A pipeline of trained candidates for entry-level roles
Industry-focused training co-designed with employers
Support in building a more diverse and inclusive workforce
Opportunities to strengthen ESG outcomes through meaningful workforce participation
Through the program, we can help businesses address workforce shortages while creating genuine career opportunities for women.
Creating more opportunities for women
Steel Chicks believes the steel industry is stronger when it reflects the diversity of the communities it serves. Through initiatives like Women in Steel, we're breaking down barriers and creating accessible pathways into careers that have traditionally been underrepresented by women.
Whether you're considering a career change, entering the workforce for the first time, or looking to build a rewarding future in steel, this program has been designed to help you take that first step.
